Celebrating sporting achievements
Around one hundred people with disabilities from all over the
Midlands are expected to take part in a sporting event organised by
Wyre Forest District Council.
The event, which is being held at Bewdley Leisure Centre on
Thursday 8th July, is to celebrate the achievements of a
group of athletes who have been attending sports sessions put on by
the Council's Sports Development Team. These have taken place
throughout year at Wyre Forest Glades on Thursday mornings and
regularly attracted 30 disabled athletes from the
district.
Adults with physical and learning disabilities from across the
county have been invited to the celebration event. They will
compete in a range of activities including football, boccia,
curling, basketball and the javelin. This year, target throw
and parachute games as well as a 400m walk are included.
Everyone who takes part will receive a certificate and a medal
during the final ceremony. Youngsters from Bewdley High
School are volunteering at the event.
Councillor Tracey Onslow, Wyre Forest District Council's Cabinet
Member for Community and Partnership Services said,
"The sports sessions have provided many disabled people with the
chance to have a go at different activities and our Sports
Development Team has helped them progress. The sessions have
been more popular than ever and this event is a great way to
celebrate their achievements."
The activities start at 10.30am.
