Make a Playday at Our Place
There's a chance for youngsters to clown around on Wednesday
28th July at a free event at Clensmore in
Kidderminster.
Playday, which is organised by Wyre Forest District Council with
Play England, is back for the first week of the school
holidays. There will be juggling, spinning and balancing at
the circus workshops. For the musical types there is a chance
to join in junk percussion workshops. The Council's Sports
Development Team will have a range of different sports to try out
and there will be an arts and crafts tent with lots to make and
do.
This Playday event is to mark the annual celebration of a
child's right to play. This year's theme is 'Our Place' putting
children at the heart of our communities, and asking everyone,
young and old, to help create better places for all of us to live
and play.
This year the event is also supporting the Noah's Ark Trust
through BBC Hereford and Worcester Love Live On appeal. Children
can dress up as their favourite animal and take part in a walk for
the local charity which provides grief support for children, young
people and their families throughout the county.
The fun is from 11am until at 3pm and the event is open to all
children. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an
adult. The event is free but there will be a small
charge for some of the activities.
There
will be more chances to play with different activities at another
Playday in Stourport-on-Severn on Wednesday 4th
August. The free event is taking place between 11am and
3pm. Among the fun there will be a karaoke stage, bungee
trampolines, climbing wall and football games. There will be
a small charge for some of the activities.
Councillor Tracey Onslow, Wyre Forest District Council's Cabinet
Member for Community and Partnership Services said,
"The summer holidays are all about children playing outside and
enjoying themselves, the Playdays bring a whole host of activities
to keep our children busy. It's just part of a whole
programme of events which Wyre Forest District Council has
organised for children over the summer. However, if you
prefer less 'organised' days out, don't forget that we have
wonderful parks and nature reserves which are always worth a visit
- details for which are on the parks
and green spaces section of our website.
Anyone wanting more ideas on how to entertain the children
during the summer holidays can view the
Summer Activity programme and book events online. Copies
of the programme are also available from Worcestershire Hubs, Wyre
Forest Customer Service Centres at Kidderminster Town Hall,
Stourport Civic Centre and Load Street, Bewdley. For
