New car parking rules set for green light
Changes to car parking arrangements across the district are on
the agenda at a Cabinet meeting on 20th July.
If proposals go ahead, Bewdley home owners with Resident Parking
Passes will be able to park for longer without having to move their
car. District wide, those with Full, Restricted and Resident
Parking Passes will be able to park for up to two months without
moving in Council owned car parks.
The recommendation from the authority's Community and
Regeneration Scrutiny Committee followed a parking review.
Concerns were highlighted to the authority after a number of
residents received Penalty Charge Notices for overstaying the 23
hour limit. This is one of the conditions of use of
council-owned car parks. It is to ensure that ownership is
not conveyed and to prevent inappropriate continual use of car park
spaces.
Other changes to car parking in the district are being discussed
at the Cabinet meeting next week (Tuesday 20th
July).
There are recommendations for charging at The Avenue in
Blakedown and Vale Road car park in Stourport-on-Severn.
The Cabinet will also be considering changing the public car
park at Westbourne Street in Bewdley and leasing the land for
residents' parking. If the Cabinet gives these
recommendations the go ahead they will be debated at Council in
July before a public consultation later in the Summer. The
report highlights the need to increase car park charges and season
ticket prices in January 2011 to reflect in the increase in VAT
from 17.5% to 20%.
Councillor Marcus Hart, Wyre Forest District Council's Cabinet
Member for Housing and Environmental Services said,
"This report is the first of a two stage review of car parking
across the District. Car parking can often be controversial
and very emotive and I appreciate this. However, the purpose
of this strategic review is to bring consistency, equality and
fairness to the public parking provision across the District for
the greater benefit of all of our Wyre Forest District Council
residents. We aim to remove anomalies and inconsistencies
which have built up over a period of time and it is only right that
we review these from time to time.
"We acknowledge that we live in a difficult financial climate,
not only for the Council but also for residents and businesses and
this review aims to be as fair and consistent as possible for all.
The second part of the review will be considered later in the year
as part of the budget setting process."
