New Recycling Scheme Underway
This week sees the launch of the new and
improved recycling service in Wyre Forest district. The new service
means that residents will now receive a collection either this week
or next week.
Refuse and recycling is being collected on the
same day on alternate weeks, with recycling collected one week and
refuse collected the following week.
Councillor Nathan Desmond, Wyre Forest
District Council’s Cabinet Member for Resources said
“The service has been changed to make it
easier for residents to recycle more. A new sorting facility now
enables us to recycle lots more materials such as yogurt pots, all
cardboard boxes and juice cartons. New green wheelie bins have now
been delivered to homes across the district along with an
information pack.”
Residents are being advised that, if they
wish, they can make use of their old recycling boxes for other
recycling activities or simply storage containers. These can often
be useful in and around the home and garden. However, if they don’t
need their old recycling boxes, residents can dispose of them at
their nearest household recycling site where they will be recycled.
Alternatively arrangements are in hand with a local recycling
business which is prepared to collect them from residents.
Details on this scheme will be released shortly.
The Council is also investigating the
introduction of foil banks for recycling foil wrappings and food
containers. These banks would be located at the existing recycling
stations around the district. Details of this scheme will be
released shortly.
Councillor Nathan Desmond said “The new waste
and recycling system has been designed to make recycling easier and
accessible to more people. It means that less waste is consigned to
landfill and therefore is better for the environment and more cost
effective to operate. We hope residents will find the new system
better all round.”
Running alongside the recycling service is a
new garden waste collection service which residents can join at any
time during the year. The service costs just £30 for collections
during the year between March and November. There is also a one-off
joining fee of £20. Please note that initially the service is
limited, and therefore will not cover every household in the
district.
