New look for Coronation Gardens in Kidderminster
A colourful psychedelic painted paving area based on 60's art
work will grace Coronation Gardens between Worcester Street and
Oxford Street in Kidderminster if plans are approved by the
Council's Cabinet on Tuesday 20th July.
The new proposed landscaping scheme costing £26,000 retains the
public art hoardings which have proved very popular locally, and
also includes a small shrub bed and turfed area, wild flower bed,
trees and kerbing. Street furniture is included as is stepped
access to the area. Four or five additional car parking spaces
complete the scheme.
Thanks to a local collaboration, much of the labour will be
carried out through the Probationary Service.
Councillor John Campion, Wyre Forest District Council's leader,
said
"We have not ruled out future redevelopment of the site but we
feel that the hoardings detract from the area. This value for money
proposal would bring the site into use through landscaping,
incorporation of existing public art and provision of some car
parking spaces. It will improve the public area in this part of
Kidderminster town centre and show that it is open for business,
pending any longer term redevelopment once the wider economic
climate has improved. The landscape proposal is original and
striking to look at, and would be a real enhancement to this area
of the town."
It is intended that the project will be completed by
the end of November 2010.
