Chairman's appeal helps Millbrook Suite
One thousand four hundred pounds has been raised for the
Milllbrook Suite in Kidderminster by the former Chairman of Wyre
Forest District Council.
Councillor Mike Salter picked the Millbrook Suite as his chosen
charity when he came into office in May 2009 and he rang the
changes to raise money.
One of his fund raising schemes included fining councillors £5
if their mobile phones rang during meeting. He also organised
two raffles and donated money from the collection at his Christmas
Carol service. There was also a donation from the collection
at Honorary Alderman John Simmonds Memorial Service. Local
dignitaries and Councillors also added to the pot.
Councillor Salter, who is now vice chairman of the authority
said,
"I really enjoyed my year as Chairman and I'm delighted that
we've been able to raise so much money for the Millbrook
Suite. I chose the cause at the start of my term in office as
they were desperate for funds. A lot of my very close friends have
been assisted by the Suite and I felt I had to do all I could to
help in return. It's great news that thanks to the generosity of
locals they've now been able to revamp the Suite and my fundraising
will add to the fund."
He added,
"We didn't raise much in mobile phone fines but we've had a lot
less interruptions to meetings and have been able to get on with
Council business! I have to admit I did get fined once myself
– and I paid up!"
The money was presented to Rachel Desogus, a sister at the
centre.
She said,
"We would like to thank everyone who has donated money to the
Millbrook Suite. Although the refurbishment has been
completed, this is an ongoing project and we appreciate the
continued support as there are always things we need. We try
to go the extra mile in the ward to make patients as comfortable as
possible for example by offering alternative therapies and making
the surroundings attractive. This money will help us with
that."
