Celebrating sporting achievements
Around one hundred and thirty people with disabilities from all
over the Midlands took part in sporting event organised by Wyre
Forest District Council.
The adults who have physical and learning difficulties competed
in a range of activities including football, boccia, curling,
basketball and the javelin.
The event, which was held at Bewdley Leisure Centre, was to
celebrate the achievements of a group of athletes who have been
attending sports sessions put on by the Council's Sports
Development Team.
These have taken place throughout the year at Wyre Forest
Glades on Thursday mornings and regularly attracted 30 disabled
athletes from the district.
Leader of the Council, Councillor John Campion was among those
who attended the event. He said,
"The event saw both employees from the District Council and
volunteers from the Bewdley High School take part, working together
with those less able individuals to make sure that they were able
to enjoy this excellent sporting event. I was very grateful
for the invitation and congratulate the staff, volunteers and
disabled athletes for an excellent event that was very well
attended."
Everyone who took part received a certificate and medal to
reward their efforts and sportsmanship throughout the morning.

Photographs show some of the many activities which took place
during the day.
