Get set for Parish Games
Teams from Parishes across the district are testing a whole
range of skills over the next three months as they battle it out to
be named Parish Games Champions.
From traditional pub games like dominoes and cribbage to sports
such as golf and archery, they are all part of the competition.
The Parish Games is an annual competition organised by Wyre
Forest District Council. This year teams from Wolverley and
Cookley, Rock, Upper Arley, Kidderminster, Churchill and Blakedown,
Bewdley, Stourport-on-Severn and Chaddesley Corbett are taking
part. Children can get involved too. The Rounders event
includes youngsters between 11 and 16 years old in the teams.
Councillor Marcus Hart, Wyre Forest District Council's Cabinet
Member for Community and Partnership Services said,
"The Parish Games is all about encouraging people to take part
in something they wouldn't normally do. It's also building on
the friendly relations between the different parishes in the
district. We hope that people have lots of fun taking
part."
The Games final event is a Quiz Night, when the presentations
are made. There are trophies for all the winning teams of
individual events and a £100 cheque for the overall
winners.

Last year's winners were Wolverley and Cookley Parish who came
out top after a very close battle. It all came down to the
quiz night, when Wolverley and Cookley finished sixth, securing
just enough points to take the title.
There is still time to join in the fun. Anyone who would
like to join their parish team can contact Amy Smith, Wyre Forest
District Council's Leisure Development Officer by emailing
