Gearing up for Fairtrade Trade Fortnight
Fairtrade supporters from around the Wyre Forest district are
gearing up for this year's Fairtrade Fortnight, which takes place
22nd February – 7th March. Various events and
activities will be taking place during the two week campaign in
Bewdley, Kidderminster and Stourport – all having achieved official
Fairtrade Town status.
Free Fairtrade taster sessions will be taking place at various
locations throughout Fairtrade Fortnight, including: Stourport
Co-op on Monday 22nd February (10am-1pm) Kidderminster's
Swan Centre from Wednesday 24th to Saturday
27th February (11am-4pm) Wesley Methodist Church,
Stourport High Street on Saturday 27th February
(10am-1pm) Kidderminster Franche Road Co-op on Monday
1st March (10am-1pm).
Councillor Tracey Onslow, Wyre Forest District Council's Cabinet
Member for Housing and Environmental Services urges everyone
to get involved. She said,
"We have a well-established Fairtrade culture in Wyre Forest and
it's always great to see new activities to support this during
Fairtrade Fortnight. Come and join in the Fairtrade Tea Party at St
Chad's Church in Kidderminster on Saturday 27th February
(3-5pm). In Bewdley, there will be a stall selling Fairtrade food
and crafts at St Ann's Church when the church is open.
We are keen to retain and expand our Fairtrade status and I would
urge residents to look again at Fairtrade products."
Local School Children can also take part in a Fairtrade Quiz
which will be distributed through schools. Budding fashion
designers from local secondary schools have been busy creating
Fairtrade themed fashion garments for a Fairtrade Design
Competition, organised by Stourport High School. The lucky winner,
who will receive 2 tickets to see chart topping star Lady GaGa live
in concert, will be revealed at a Fairtrade Awards Ceremony at
Stourport Civic Centre on 4th March. The event, hosted
by Stourport Mayor Cllr John Holden, will also feature music and
drama from local schools. All are welcome to attend this free
event, which begins at 7pm.
