Summer Walks
Residents are being encouraged to make the most of summer and
discover new places with guided walks in and around the local
area.
Best Foot Forward walking groups offer a variety of led walks in
different areas of the Wyre Forest. The project is part of a health
initiative delivered by Wyre Forest District Council. It has
been running for just over a year and now offers six weekly walks
throughout the district.
Councillor Tracey Onslow, Wyre Forest District Council's Cabinet
Member for Community and Partnership Services said,
"If you've ever wondered what's beyond that field or where that
footpath leads, then it might be time for you to join in on one of
the walks. Walking is great for us physically and walking in
a group is a fantastic way to meet new friends. It also
enables people to discover new areas that they may not have visited
on their own."
David Tidmarsh, Wyre Forest District Council's Walking
Co-ordinator said,
"Walking is a low impact activity which makes it a great way to
remain active. It helps reduce stress, improves sleep, helps
prevent diabetes and also benefits the immune system. It's also an
easy way of fulfilling the recommended 30 minutes of activity a
day.
"The walks are generally easy and cover level terrain and are up
to an hour in length. Each walk is different, offering a unique
insight into that area."
Specialist equipment is not required to join in the walks but it
is advised to wear something comfortable on your feet, like a pair
of trainers.
