New date for contested Parish Council elections
Due to the General Election being held on the same day as the
District Council elections on 6th May, the contested Parish Council
elections in Wyre Forest have been delayed.
This means that the Parish Council elections in Bewdley Town
(East, West and Wribbenhall) and Upper Arley (Shatterford and Pound
Green) will be held between 7am and 10pm on Thursday
27th May 2010. Everyone entitled to vote in these Parish
Council elections will be receiving their polling cards
shortly.
Ian Miller, the Returning Officer for Wyre Forest District
Council said,
"Parish Councils are an important part of local government, and
it is pleasing to see the democratic process flourishing at all
levels in Wyre Forest."
Parish Council elections that were scheduled for this year in
Chaddesley Corbett, Kidderminster Foreign, Rushock, Stone and Upper
Arley (Arley Village) were not contested, as the number of validly
nominated candidates was the same as or less than the number of
seats to be filled. For these parishes, the election date
does not change and the candidates will be declared elected
unopposed.
For the contested Parish Council elections, there is a further
period for candidates to be nominated which runs from
21st April until 12 noon on Thursday 29th
April. If, after the close of withdrawals, candidates have
withdrawn so as to make the election uncontested then there would
be no election for that parish on 27th May.
