Postcard spreads recycling message
Postcards featuring a design by 8 year old
Chloe Payne are now being posted around the world, after the
Heronswood Primary School pupil won a Wyre Forest District Council
design competition.
Primary school students from all schools
across the district were asked to come up with a design to promote
recycling. The winner had their picture made into a postcard.
The top three entries also received recycled stationary sets, a set
of eco-books and book tokens. Chloe’s design features a picture of
the earth with a huge grin and 'keep the earth happy' and 'recycle
it, don't bin it!' captions. There's also a cheery picture of a
person recycling a glass bottle into a 'recycling box'.
Councillor Nathan Desmond, Wyre Forest
District Council’s Cabinet Member for Resources said,
“We were really delighted with the response to
the competition and we had some exceptional entries from children
as young as 5. Congratulations to Chloe on her winning
picture. We chose her design because it is colourful, cheery
and gave exactly the right message. In fact we like it so much we
are now hoping it will feature on our new vehicle signs. “
Joanne Duffield, Waste Minimisation Officer at
Wyre Forest District Council organised the competition. She
said,
“We’ve been giving the postcards out at events
during the summer and we’ve asked people to send the postcards to
destinations all over the world. One lady promised to send
one to her sister in Australia and another to a Nephew in Canada,
so Chloe’s recycling message is reaching all corners of the
world!”
