On your marks, get set, Walk!
Walkers will be on the right track when new
weekly walking sessions are launched next week (Wednesday
23rd September.) Wyre Forest residents will be able to
use the athletics track in Stourport-on-Severn to keep active and
healthy by walking laps.
The new sessions have been set up by Wyre
Forest District Council, with funding from Sport England. It
is part of the authority’s Best Foot Forward Project which aims to
increase activity amongst adults by creating more independent and
led walks throughout the district. The track walking group is
the first of many new walking opportunities in the area.
There are also plans to start groups using the districts parks and
nature reserves.
Councillor Marcus Hart, Wyre Forest District
Council’s Cabinet Member for Community and Partnership Services
said,
“Walking is a really easy way to remain active
and healthy both physically and mentally. Track walking sessions
also provides a safe environment for people to build up their
confidence and ability. The sessions are open to everyone of
all abilities and it will be a good way to meet new people
too.”
Weekly track walking sessions will start at
Stourport Sports Club on Wednesday the 23rd September at
4.00pm to 5.00pm. All abilities are welcome and you can do as
much or as little as you want.
