New walks for all
Wyre Forest residents will be able to enjoy
nature reserves and local green spaces thanks to a new series of
walks.
The new walks have been set up by Wyre Forest
District Council, with funding from Sport England. It is part of
the authority’s Best Foot Forward Project which aims to increase
activity amongst adults by creating more independent and led walks
throughout the district.
David Tidmarsh, has co-ordinated the
walks. He said,
“Walking is a great way to remain active and
it reduces the risk of diabetes, benefits your immune system and
helps to manage weight. Taking part in these walks also provides
the chance to meet new people as well as showing you the fantastic
countryside this district has to offer.”
There are three new walking groups. They
will meet at Dog Lane Car Park in Bewdley each Tuesday at
1.00pm. This walk will take in the scenery of Bewdley
Riverside and will end with a chat and hot drink at a local
café.
Wednesday walks will set off from the Civic
Centre Car Park in Stourport-on-Severn at 10.00am. Walkers
can expect a gentle route taking in the sights and sounds of
Stourport Riverside ending with a refreshment break at a local
café.
Anyone wishing to join a walk on a Saturday
can join the group setting off from Springfield Park Car Park at
10.00am. This will be a circular walk around the park ending
with the option of a hot drink afterwards.
Councillor Marcus Hart, Wyre Forest District
Council’s Cabinet Member for Community and Partnership Services
said,
“All the walks are easy going and all
abilities are welcome, so if you want to be more active, explore
some of your local countryside or even meet some new people and
have a chat, come along and join us for a walk. “
