Free Insulation for the over 60s
Over 60s in the Wyre Forest district are being offered the
chance to have free loft and cavity wall insulation, thanks to Wyre
Forest District Council's 'Wyre 60' scheme.
For a limited period, anyone who is 60 or over and lives in a
privately owned or privately rented home can apply for the
scheme. The grants are being offered on a first come, first
served basis.
Cavity wall and loft insulation are the two most effective
energy efficiency measures available. For a poorly insulated
property £1 out of every £3 spent on heating could be wasted. By
insulating your home you can not only save money but also help
protect the environment from global warming and increase the value
and saleability of your home.
Cllr Tracy Onslow, Wyre Forest District Council's Cabinet Member
for Housing and Environmental Services said,
"We are delighted to be able to offer this scheme for over
60s. It is part of our work to tackle climate change. A
well-insulated home can give you the peace of mind you need to keep
warm. Insulation in homes saves householders money and helps reduce
the district's overall energy consumption, therefore reducing
carbon dioxide emissions."
Residents can find out how energy efficient their property is by
visiting the Warmer Worcestershire website at http://www.warmerworcestershire.com/
. The website allows residents to enter their postcode and see an
image of their property that uses a simple colour scheme to show
how much heat is being lost through the roof.
Councillor Onslow added,
"The 'Wyre 60' scheme offers many people the chance to have free
insulation and there is other help available for those people who
don't qualify. For example people receiving certain benefits
may be entitled to help with energy saving measures and everybody
can access subsidised insulation (typically half price),
irrespective of age."
Anyone wishing to apply should contact the energy experts at Act
on Energy on 0800 988 2881. They will confirm whether
applicants are eligible for the scheme and arrange for the work to
be carried out. Act on Energy also has details of all of the
energy efficiency schemes on offer.
