Views of Old Kidderminster
Local people will be fascinated by Bewdley Museum's latest
temporary exhibition, 'Views of Kidderminster' by Knox Ferguson.
The exhibition features sketches of Kidderminster made by the
Scottish artist John Knox Ferguson in the 1890s. Many buildings are
featured in the illustrations that have since been demolished, such
as Swan Street which was replaced by the Swan Centre in 1968.
The exhibition can be viewed in the Museum's Wyre Forest Gallery on
Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays between 12noon and 4.00pm (last
entry 3.30pm) until the 20th December. Entry is free.
The sketches were commissioned by Peter Adam, a local carpet
manufacturer who later became Mayor of Kidderminster. They reveal a
town, very different to the one we see today.
Wyre Forest District Council's Cabinet Member for Community and
Partnership Services, Councillor Marcus Hart said:
"At a time when there is so much focus on the future
regeneration and prosperity of Kidderminster, this exhibition
offers a rare glimpse into the town's past. I think people will
enjoy taking a brief look back at the trades and buildings that
were important to their ancestors".
