New Refuse and Recycling Plans for Wyre Forest
Wyre Forest District Council is proposing ambitious plans to
improve its current kerbside recycling and waste management
service.
The proposed improved service will provide local residents with
an enhanced easy to use scheme which will result in less items
going to landfill and a higher recycling rate achieved by the
community. If approved, the new scheme will be introduced across
the district in summer 2010.
Cllr Nathan Desmond, Wyre Forest District Council's Cabinet
Member for Resources said:
"The new scheme means your refuse and recycling would be collected
on alternate weeks. Your recycling would be collected one week, and
your refuse collected the following week. You would not have to
separate your recycling into separate containers. A special wheeled
bin would be provided by the council."
The new service means that a wider range of materials can be
recycled including all purpose made food cartons, such as soups and
drinks cartons, and corrugated cardboard and plastic containers
such as yoghurt pots, food punnets and margarine and ice-cream
tubs.
Also, new for 2010 will be the proposed introduction of a paid
for garden waste collection service. This would be introduced as a
trial to around 5,000 local properties at a cost of £30 per year
per property.
Cllr Nathan Desmond said:
"These proposals represent the largest investment in Community
Waste Services across the Council since the recycling Service was
first introduced back in 2003. The introduction of a Garden Waste
Collection Service, coupled with an easier to use recycling scheme
will make Wyre Forest greener in terms of how it handles unwanted
waste items. The Government has set challenging recycling
targets for local Councils (40% by 2010) so these new plans would
significantly help us to achieve these targets."
The plans are being considered by Wyre Forest District Council's
Cabinet on 24th
November 2009. If approved, they
will be presented to full Council on 2nd December
2009.
