Wyre Forest District Council wins national procurement
award
Wyre Forest District Council along with the other Worcestershire
District's and Staffordshire Moorlands has won the prestigious SOPO
(Society of Procurement Officers) award for outstanding achievement
in Procurement.
In 2008 the seven District Councils came together to jointly tender
their insurance requirements. Wyre Forest took the lead forming a
regional pilot project to obtain best value on insurance and
to stimulate the marketplace.
The insurance contracts were awarded in April 2009 and the result
was an incredible success, delivering £1.7m of savings to the
group. Wyre Forest District Council is making annual savings of
around £60,000.
The Council's were up against stiff opposition in one of the most
keenly contested categories but came out on top due to the
innovative nature of the project and the savings achieved.
Nathan Desmond, Cabinet Member for Resources at Wyre Forest
District Council said:
"This is a fantastic result and shows that the Council is
investigating innovative ways of ensuring that the Tax payer gets
value for money from the Council"
The success of this project has been followed by other public
bodies including the 14 upper tier councils and the remaining 12
district councils across the West Midlands region.
Winning this highly sought after award shows Wyre Forest District
Council's continued commitment to delivering its residents the best
possible value for the services it procures.
