50,000 tonnes of waste recycled

Wyre Forest District Council is celebrating the achievement of recycling over 50,000 tonnes of rubbish since kerbside recycling was introduced in September 2003.

Between 600 and 700 tonnes of rubbish a month is now recycled and not sent to landfill and the residents of Wyre Forest are currently recycling over 26% of their rubbish.

Pictured below, Councillor Nathan Desmond, Cabinet Member for Resources said:
‘This is a great achievement that everyone in Wyre Forest should be proud of.  We’re really pleased that more and more residents have got on board with recycling and changed their habits to look after the environment. Without the support of our residents we would still be sending this rubbish to landfill’.

Council's recycling achievement

Wyre Forest District Council hopes to expand the kerbside recycling scheme next year by enabling residents to recycle more items.
