Flooding

There are two main rivers running through the Wyre Forest district, the River Severn and the River Stour, as well as a number of other smaller watercourses, all of which are liable to flood from time to time.

The Environment Agency is the responsible body for the Rivers Severn and Stour and more information on general flooding matters can be found on their website.

The responsibility for watercourses rests with the owners of the land on which the watercourse is located.

Anyone proposing to carry out development works in an area subject to flooding will have to take particular care and will have to provide additional technical information when they are submitting a planning application.

In 2003, the Council published its Flood Defence Policy pdf logo (83K) which sets out its responsibilities in the event of flooding taking place.
Further advice is available on the Environment Agency website.

Flood Warnings

The Environment Agency changed their flood warning codes on November 8th 2010 in a bid to make them easier to understand. Download the full press release pdf logo (65K) from the Environment Agency.
