Getting a Job with Wyre Forest District Council

||

Filling in the application form

With each application form you will receive a job description and person specification, with other information to tell you more about the job . You should look carefully at this to decide if your skills, knowledge, experience and abilities match those needed to do the job.

We shortlist using the information provided on the application form. This means that you must provide evidence that you meet all the essential parts of the person specification and, as far as possible, all the desirable qualities that we need.

When filling in the application form include relevant experience or knowledge that you have gained through paid or unpaid work, in a hobby, at home or at school.

To enable our Equal Opportunities policy to run efficiently please use the application form provided, continuing on extra sheets if necessary. Please do not send a Curriculum Vitae with your application form. If you have any difficulties completing the standard application form we will accept your application typed, recorded on an audio or video cassette or in Braille. If you use one of the alternatives please follow the format of the standard application form.

Personal Details

To achieve equal opportunities, we will detach the personal details from the application form before shortlisting . The Interview panel will not have this information until the interview, when we need it for administrative purposes.

Work Experience

Please give details of your current and previous jobs in this section, with the most recent first. You may also wish to include any experience you have gained in doing unpaid or voluntary work.

Experience, Skills and Knowledge

Make sure that in this section of the application form you clearly show how you meet the key areas of experience on the person specification. You may have gained the experience, skills and knowledge through work, home, voluntary work or other activities.

Education and Training

If you come for an interview you will have to produce original documentary evidence of your qualifications. This includes your driving licence if this is a requirement of the job. We will not accept Photocopies.

Pension Scheme

All successful applicants can join the Local Government Pension Scheme. The Council encourages all employees to join the Scheme.

Referees

In this section of the application form please give the names and addresses of two referees. One must be your current employer (or your last employer if you do not have a job)

Acknowledgement of Application

For economy, we will only acknowledge your application if you send a stamped-addressed envelope with your application.

Canvassing of Elected Members of the Authority

Canvassing of elected members of the Authority in support of your application will disqualify you as a candidate.

Criminal Record Bureau Checks

Applicants appointed to jobs classified by the Council as having substantial access to children under the age of sixteen or other vulnerable members of society will be subject to a CRB check to reveal any previous criminal convictions.

Medical Examinations

It is the policy of the Council that any offers of appointment are subject to medical clearance. Candidates have to complete a medical questionnaire and may have an examination. At this stage the Occupational Health Unit is told of any reasonable adjustments needed to let disabled applicants do the job.

Prevention and Detection of Fraud

We must protect the public funds we handle so we may use the information you provide on your application form to prevent and detect fraud. We may also share this information, for the same purposes, with other organisations which handle public funds.
