The Pollution Control Section is part of the Environmental Health Service and carries out a number of key pollution related services.
- Industrial Air Pollution: We authorise and inspect certain types of industrial premises in relation to air pollution emissions.
- Noise Nuisance ComplaintsWe investigate a wide range of noise complaints. Examples include loud music and noisy dogs from neighbouring property and noise from pubs, clubs and factories. We also deal with complaints about noise from the prolonged ringing of burglar alarms. :
- General Pollution Complaints: We investigate problems of smells, dust and other emissions from all types of premises and smoke from chimneys or bonfires.
- Air Quality Management: We monitor air pollution at a number of sites in the District.
- Asbestos: We provide advice to residents on enquiries regarding potential asbestos within the home.
- Contaminated Land: We published the Contaminated Land Inspection Strategy for the District in April 2001 which is currently being implemented.
- Water Sampling: We monitor the quality of all private supplies, although depending on how many people use the supply, this may not happen often. (A private supply may be provided by a borehole, spring or well etc and is not water supplied by a water company). We currently sample certain swimming pools and paddling pools (seasonal) for public health safety in respect of water quality.
- Consultation: We also receive consultations from other parts of the Council on planning applications and entertainment licences.
