Planning, Health & Environment Division

Welcome to the Council’s Planning, Health and Environment Division. The Division provides Forward Planning, Development Control, Building Control, Environmental Health and Housing Services.

The Development Control team process planning and other similar applications for development and answer enquiries regarding the need for planning permission. The team also deals with breaches of planning control through its enforcement duties and matters related to trees and hedges.

The Forward Planning team set the planning policy ‘blue print’ for the future development of the district. The team are responsible for the Wyre Forest District Local Plan and the new Local Development Framework.

The Building Control team is responsible for the administration of the Building Regulations ensuring that construction work meets the requirements of the Building Act 1984.

The Environmental Health and Licensing team protect the health of the community, ensuring a clean and safe environment by monitoring food safety standards, health and safety requirements, pollution control, the control of infectious diseases and the implementation of the statutory licensing regime.

The Council does not look after any Council houses anymore but it does still have a responsibility for some housing matters. The Housing Services team provide the strategic framework for the implementation of housing legislation including working with Registered Social Landlords to provide affordable housing, providing homelessness, housing advice and access to other housing services. The team is also responsible for promoting healthy living and working with partner agencies to reduce health inequalities and for helping to deliver an effective sustainable environment.

We aim to apply the principles of sustainability to guide and shape the built and natural environments throughout the district, protecting our heritage assets and promoting quality in new development, to ensure that residents and businesses enjoy a vibrant, safe and healthy environment in which to live and invest in and which can be enjoyed by everyone.
