Housing legislation places various duties on local authorities to house homeless people in priority need and to provide advice
and assistance to those not in priority need.
The Council sold all of its housing stock in April 2000 to The Community Housing
Group, (a local Housing Association). However, the Council still retains important housing responsibilities as the Local
Housing Authority.
